AR and DHS organise health camp at Pongchau
ITANAGAR, Dec 2: 19 Assam Rifles in a synergized effort with district administration, Tirap conducted a Medical Camp at Pongchau on Nov 30.
Two medical officers of Assam Rifles and four medical officers from Tirap district health society including Dr.W.Wangsu, Dr P Monwangham, Dr.HK Dutta, Dr.T.Matey and Dr K.Handique from the 19th Assam Rifles examined around 740 people during the Medical Camp. Around 400 cases of fever were reported, out of which 230 cases of suspected clinical malaria were subject to Rapid test and slide test. In addition to this, 86 cases of water borne diseases, 168 cases of skin diseases and around 200 gynecological cases were reported during the Camp. Around 46 people were screened for HIV and 40 people were screened for Tuberculosis. After diagnosis, people were given free medicines and were advised to report at PHC, Pongchau after few days for monitoring.
Patients from Mintong, Longphong, Bonia, Longkhaw, Konnu and Pongchau were benefited in the camp.
Brigadier JS Negi, Vishisht Seva Medal, Commander 25 Sector Assam Rifles also visited Pongchau and witnessed the conduct of the Medical Camp. After a gruelling journey of eight hours from Lekhapani to Pongchau, Commander met the villagers and gave a patient hearing to their problems.
Commander complimented 19 Assam Rifles, ADC Tirap, DMO Tirap, Circle Officer Pongchau and other district officials for such prompt and coordinated effort, which led to saving of precious lives. Commander informed the locals regarding conduct of another medical camp on similar lines in near future.
The Commander also sensitized the environment about various issues including insurgency, illiteracy, unemployment and development of the area. He elaborated upon employment opportunities and exhorted the locals to have maximum participation in recruitment rally in progress at Khonsa and recruitment to Porter Company. Circle officer, Raja and GB of Pongchau also met Commander and highlighted the problems of the area. Commander assured the villagers and district officials of all possible help.
Siram recommend extension of university Campus & recruitment of teachers
ITANAGAR, Dec 2: Minister Education Bosiram Siram has recommended establishment of University Campus at J. N. College Pasighat and other colleges wherever feasible and recruitment of 200 teachers for development of Hindi language as well as improvement of science stream. He further called for development of Bhoti language and enhancement of teachers from 40 to 100.
He made these recommendations during a meeting with Union Minister for HRD Kapil Sibal in his office chamber at Shastri Bhawan, New Delhi today. He was accompanied by MP Ninong Ering and Deputy Resident Commissioner B. Talukdar.
Siram also apprised the Union Minister that all the colleges need infrastructural facilities and sought for central financial assistance.
He further stressed on construction of more schools and teacher quarters with toilet and need for extension of already appointed SSA teachers and their regularization.
Various problems pertaining to development of education in Arunachal Pradesh were discussed as well.

St. Claret College observes World AIDS Day
ITANAGAR, Dec 2: The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of St Claret College, Ziro in collaboration with the Red Ribbon Club (RRC) observed the World AIDS Day yesterday. The day begun with a rally covering Hija village, Old Ziro, Reru village, Kalung village, and finally reached the college campus in which the students and the staff of St. Claret College, Ziro under the leadership of the Bhaboklang Sohkhlet and Habung Pilya participated in the rally.
A programme was set up in the auditorium of the college in which Dr. S. Kakoty, the District Medical Officer (DMO) and Dr. Kuru Tama was present as the Chief Guest and the Resource person respectively.
Along with them, Dr. Gagam Dai, Senior medical Officer and the district Counsellors from ICTC were also present in the occasion.
Stressing on the importance of the day, Dr. S Kakoty, said that we are all bound by certain laws and morality and we should abide by it which will help us directly or indirectly to prevent the spread of AIDS. He encouraged the students to accumulate all the knowledge of this dreadful disease and to help in spreading awareness among the ignorant mass.
Dr. Kuru Tama, the Resource person, highlighted on the symptoms, transmission, myths and prevention. Clarifying the various misconceptions regarding HIV/AIDS he said that although the disease is incurable, an HIV infected person can lead a healthy life if he/she can maintain a healthy diet and hygiene. He also emphasized on the fact that AIDS can be prevented through knowledge and awareness alone.
Hage Omo Koyang, the HIV/AIDS Counselor, gave a short briefing on the importance of having ICTC in every district and the works and objectives of a Counsellor. He also encouraged the students to visit the ICTC for counselling and any queries regarding HIV/AIDS.
Meanwhile, World Aids day was celebrated by 10th ITBP force at Kimin by organizing awareness programe on prevention and management of the deadly disease. During the day unit medical officer of ITBP delivered an informative and fruitful lecture on AIDS. Rajesh Kumar Tomar Commanding officer of 10th ITBP presided as chief guest.

ITANAGAR, Dec 2: All Dollungmukh Student Union (ADASU) have submitted memoranda to Raga constituency MLA Nido Pavitra and All Nyishi Students Union seeking their help to end boundary dispute with Assam at Dollungmukh. In a release issued by the union they also asked for the creation of Extra Assistant Commissioner Post and setting up of police outpost in the area. Further ADASU urged authorities to take note of the shortage of subject teachers in the school of Dollungmukh.
One biker killed
ITANAGAR: A biker was killed on Tuesday night neat Essar petrol pump at Papu Nalla.
Poonam Doimari, a 35 year employee with SIB was killed on the spot due to serious head injury suffered after losing control of his bike. He was on his way to Itanagar in the wee hours of Tuesday night in pulsar bike and met with an accident. Naharlagun police arrived on the spot at early morning and found him dead. A post mortem was conducted and police are investigating the cause of the accident.

ITANAGAR, Dec 2: All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) decided to ban sale and use of Chinese products in the state of Arunachal Pradesh. It gave a week’s time to the business fraternity to dispose off or return Chinese products.
It further demanded that India government ban Chinese products in Indian market.
This was disclosed by AAPSU President Takam Tatung at a press conference held this evening.
Terming the huge entry of Chinese products in the Indian markets as one of the causes for ever increasing unemployment problems in the country, he urged the government to ban the Chinese products here immediately and initiate steps for setting up of factories and other infrastructures especially in north eastern states to address the unemployment problems.
The AAPSU will take up the ban of Chinese products in the state seriously from tomorrow.

Meanwhile, he condemned the Chinese move to halt construction of a link road in Demchok village in south eastern Ladakh region, stating it as a disputed area.

ITANAGAR, Dec 2: The mortal remains of Late S K Singh, former Governor of Arunachal was consigned to flames today at 11 AM in New Delhi. A former Foreign Secretary and rated among the most distinguished Indian diplomats, Singh died in Ganga Ram Hospital on Tuesday after a prolonged illness leaving behind his wife Manju and sons Shashank and Kanishka.
Arunachal remembered its former Governor S K Singh. Series of condolence meetings were organised in his memory in the state.
